Seven Lakes West Community

August 14, 2024

Seven Lakes West is located in the heart of North Carolina, in the sand hills region. With less than a two-and-a-half-hour drive to the beach or the mountains you are centrally located for quick getaways. The community of Seven Lakes West is located in the town of West End, North Carolina. The community is conveniently located near major highways and routes, making it easy to access nearby cities and towns such as Pinehurst, Southern Pines, Charlotte, and Fayetteville. The community is surrounded by beautiful natural scenery, with the Auman Lake providing residents with a serene and peaceful living environment.

The community offers a wide range of amenities for residents, including Beacon Ridge Golf & County Club, an 18-hole championship golf course, a swimming pool, tennis courts, and a marina. The golf course is a popular spot for residents and visitors, and the community has a pro shop, putting green, and driving range. The community also has a community center, meeting rooms, a kitchen, playgrounds, parks, and a well-maintained network of walking trails. The Seven Lakes West also has Johnson Point Marina, which allows residents and visitors to rent boats, kayaks, and canoes. The community also offers a variety of social events and activities throughout the year, allowing residents to meet their neighbors and make new friends.

The village of Seven Lakes began as the vision of one man, Fred Lawrence, during a quail hunting trip to the area in 1971, purchasing 1200 acres of land that would become Seven Lakes North and South neighborhoods. In 1972, Fred Lawrence and Longleaf, Inc. received a charter to develop Seven Lakes, work began on the North and South neighborhoods in 1973, and an additional 400 acres were purchased to construct the Seven Lakes Country Club Golf Course.

In 1976, Lawrence acquired land west of NC 211, which would later become the neighborhood of Seven Lakes West. The land was purchased from T. Clyde Auman, Billy Johnson, and Allan MacDonald. The lake on the west side property was expanded, a dam was built, and the neighborhood was officially established in 1979. However, financial difficulties arose due to interest rates and gas prices, but the community recovered. The lake was named after T. Clyde Auman, who sold or traded much of the land to Lawrence. The West Side Park Community Center was constructed in the early 1990s, and the Seven Lakes West Landowners Association gained ownership of Lake Auman from the developer at the turn of the century. The community center serves the community in various ways. The lake was the primary recreation source on the West Side, the golf amenities were on the South and West sides, and the remaining recreation facilities and meeting areas were on the North side. Johnson Point is named after Billy Johnson, a West End real estate entrepreneur from whom Fred Lawrence acquired the remainder of the land that became the West Side.
